Campaign for Brighton Hippodrome

A weekend of events

Saturday 9 September 2017 Friends Meeting House, Ship Street, Brighton BN1 1AF Exhibition: 13:45-17:00 (free). Talk at 14:00 and 15:15

Free admission but pre-booking required. A lavishly illustrated talk by David Fisher with exhibition of Hippodrome memorabilia between 13:45 and 17:00 while the talk is not in progress. Many people have asked if they can look inside the Hippodrome. Unfortunately that is not possible but this is the next best thing. The talk will show, in over 200 images, the history of this endangered Grade II* listed gem—the finest unused theatre in the country—through its days as a skating rink, circus, variety theatre, bingo hall and heritage at risk. It will include pictures and information not previously known or revealed. The potential and plans for its future will also be explained.

Sunday 10 September 2017

Tours at 11:00, 14:00 and 15:00. Meet at corner of Boyce's Street and Middle St, BN1 1AL

Free admission but pre-booking required David Fisher will lead a 30 minute 'tour' of the outside of the Hippodrome with images of the interior. The interior by Frank Matcham is the real reason for the Hippodrome's unique importance as the finest unused theatre in the country. However, with the aid of photographs and plans, this 'tour' from the outside will explain the conservation issues, why it is so important that such a derelict building should be brought back to life and how this could be done.
